Crumb Path

Life ebbs and falls between a fairy tale and reality. Two little kids, a smart little boy and a dreamy little girl lay on cosy bed reading away fairy tales like whiz kids.
And they built fairy tale grannies, grandpas, cousins and life. With no grandmother waiting with a cake, he would help the little girl bake an imaginary cake and she would give it to a non existent grandmother. They knew the fairy tales forwards and backwards.
They drove with noddy and he taught her how to smile at gnomes and pixies. He helped her believe that Red Riding Hood existed just behind the trees at the backyard.
Then they read how Hansel and Gretel were lost in the woods.
There are so many different paths; which one leads home?” asked Gretel.
“I’ll drop bread crumbs behind us as we walk. That way we can be sure we’re not walking in circles,” Hansel said proudly.
The little girl and little boy stiffened and huddled together as they read how a witch traps Hansel and Gretel .
Gretel began to sob bitterly. Hansel too felt scared but he tried to hide his feelings and comfort his sister. "Don't cry, trust me! I swear I'll take you home even if Father doesn't come back for us!" Hansel tried to encourage his sister, but he too shivered when he glimpsed frightening shadows and evil eyes around them in the darkness.
And then as years passed by, the woods did lead to different paths and lost in woods, the crumbs got picked up less by fairy tale birds, more by human destined trail.
