The Nightmarish Night

Beautiful dreams and Horrid nightmares lie strewed across every life. Like a beautiful dream, perhaps the most horrid nightmare wakes you to reality. Unlike a beautiful dream, a nightmare unfolds into darkness not light. A rural, sleepy, bored township. A strange room, closed doors, closed windows. And your bags packed for a new journey the next day.You turn over your tired sleep. And a nightmare begins.Midnight light of a full moon letting a single ray through a slit of a loosely held pane.  A vampire like woman sits, with wide staring eyes, long hair let loose like the horror in her eyes. You pretend to sleep, part of a shocking nightmare till a full moon's slit eyes decide to make way for a more public sun. You lie still hoping the breathless air extends   between a postponement and an execution and then remember Newman's prayer some kind soul taught,"I do not ask to see the distant scene, one step enough for me".  A rustle of feet, you guess the vampire has moved across and you wish the alarm clock dysfunctions and goes an one hour earlier than usual. You hear the footsteps draw close and you wonder if it would be death by fire or death by water. You hear the vampire pick up your mobile phone just seconds aways from your breath. You hear it being inspected, You expect it to get thrown outside instead it gets replaced back beside your seconds away breath and you are hopeful death is still moments away. Then a whiff of deadly silence. Then you hear a kitchen knife chop away at something  at a table. The heart beats outnumber the taps on the table. And just when you think 'next me', the alarm goes at its peak and it unnerves the nightly ghost of a vampire. You mentally repeat an old adage taught by a wise soul"cool, calm and confident when reason fails" and know the exit door cannot be reached without bypassing the vampire who still chops but now with a different rhythm. You hear a loved soul's voice inside your head "..when reason fails" and you pick up your mobile phone and go ahead as cool as you can with the morning routine. You notice the battery removed off the phone, you pick up the spare mobile, you know in less than fifteen minutes you need to reach the exit door. You hear a loved soul's voice instruct you again,"confuse the unreasonable" and with all the courage you can muster, you make that quick walk to the exit. Just as you cross the vampire, you feel her silhouette stiffen  and the chop away ceases. But quicker than the cessation, you open the exit door and walk out.  And just as you make the first call to a friend walking down a corridor, you hear the distant sounds of a frustrated knife chopping harder.

  2. “Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”(Ravn) Bravo!!well written. True a dream makes for light but then a nightmare makes you see light that often goes unnoticed.
