On Illness

Illness’s ecstasy incarnate,
When it befriends you a while,
Or when it reaches a climax,
Heightening concern, pity and curiosity,
In relatives and friends,
Curiosity dominating the show
But, when illness becomes
Too familiar apart of you
Slowly concern disappears,
Giving way to icy coldness.
Curiosity and pity crawl and creep,
Till even the revolting brain
Hankers after the heart,
To help cease your breath.
Life proves Love’s a non-entity,
And Illness, Pity.
You look back, till despair
Freezes and benumbs you.
It’s harder to look forward,
For you know, the journey down
The ladder is almost done.
